What drives the variation

Turnaround and price both depend on the type and size of the damage, the board's construction, whether a color or gloss match is needed, and how busy the shop is when you drop off. A same-day fin-box repair and a multi-day delamination repair aren't priced or scheduled the same way.

Rush or same-day service, where a shop offers it, usually costs more and depends on the shop having room that day -- it's worth asking directly rather than assuming.
